Find out why it’s in your interest to be compassionate

Buddhist tradition considers that compassion and wisdom are the two wings of the same bird.

Compassion implies three ideas: “I feel what you feel”, “I understand you” and “I want to help you”.

8 benefits of compassion

  1. Improves health: benefits physical and psychological health. Studies have shown that compassionate people are in better physical shape and feel more satisfied with their lives.
  2. Contributes vitality: self-compassion favours reduced exhaustion. Cultivating it will help you to take better care of yourself, rest when needed and feel more energetic.
  3. Genuine relationships: help to understand others on a deeper level and to improve that connection. This creates stronger bonds and more significant and long-lasting relationships.
  4. Less anxiety: thinking less about yourself promotes reduced stress. When you understand what another person is going through, you obtain another perspective of your environment.
  5. Accelerate recovery: promotes healing and accelerates the recovery from illnesses. In fact, patients who feel valued by their doctors recover faster.
  6. Reduce anger: understanding what is happening to another person provides us with strategies for better calm and patience, and to address conflictive situations in a more efficient way.
  7. Better comprehension: favours comprehension of others and of oneself. This helps us to relativise and develop a better conscience.
