Cultivate healthy relationships at your workplace for a happier life
On World Day for Safety and Health at Work (28 April) we take a look at some of the things that help build a healthy and positive workplace.
Cultivating healthy relationships isn’t just good for the mind, but also for physical health. Apply certain attitudes to better connect with others is up to you.
On World Day for Safety and Health at Work (28 April) we list the skills you need to live and grow in a healthy, friendly and positive workplace.
How to build good relationships with others
- Practise empathy. Listen to what the other person is telling you in a mindful way. Don’t jump to conclusions or make judgements. And take an interest in what the other person is saying.
- Communicate assertively. The goal is to learn to express what you feel and need in an effective, non-demanding way. Nobody knows what you want if you don’t express it.
- Learn to ask for help. Asking for help or delegating tasks makes for an authentic connection with the other person: it shows that you trust them and value their input.
- Avoid gossip. Gossip erodes trust. Don’t talk about people behind their backs. If you have a problem, talk to them about it directly.
- Show gratitude. Acknowledge and showcase others’ good work: thank someone who has given you a hand, congratulate someone for doing a good job, bring a snack for breaktime or send a thank you note. A small gesture goes a long way to showing appreciation for those around you.
