The importance of working in a healthy environment

On World Day for Safety and Health at Work we’re talking about what a safe and healthy working environment is.

To mark World Day for Safety and Health at Work (28 April), this year the International Labor Organization (ILO) is sending out the message that a safe, healthy working environment is a fundamental principle and right.

Inclusion of safe and healthy working conditions in the ILO’s framework means that all ILO Member States commit to respect and promote the fundamental right to a safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right.

What is a healthy working environment?

A safe and healthy working environment is one in which risks have been identified, the right measures to mitigate potential hazards have been adopted and where prevention is part of the organisational culture.

Who plays a role in promoting a safe and health working environment?

Companies. They should ensure that workplaces are safe and risk-free.

Employees. They need to take precautions, comply with instructions and use equipment properly.
