How to protect your skin when using sanitiser gels

Continued use of this type of product will dry out your hands and may cause flaking, so use it properly

Do you notice your skin getting drier since you’ve been using antibacterial gels? Don’t worry, it’s normal. The use of hydro-alcoholic gels has become a common practice as a hygiene measure against COVID-19, but you must know how and when to apply it to avoid possible negative consequences for your skin.

Sanitiser gels are usually composed of at least 60% alcohol. This makes them very effective against bacteria and viruses, but they can also cause dry skin or slight irritation on hands and nails if used excessively.

The most effective way to prevent your hands from deteriorating is to moisturise them. To do this, use a moisturiser specifically for your hands several times a day. This way, you will protect your skin and prevent it from drying out and cracking.

Another way to protect your skin is to reduce the amount of hydro-alcoholic gel you apply each time you use it. Whenever possible, wash your hands with soap and water. Only use these types of gels when you have no other option.

Take care of your hands, protect your skin.
