Animal Flow, another way of training using just your body

Animal Flow is one of the fastest growing trends in the fitness world, thanks to its versatility and the fact that you don’t need any products, just the weight of your own body.

This type of training is aimed towards increasing your muscle strength at the same time as improving our stability and balance.

What’s involved?

Animal Flow combines traditional exercises, such as squats and pushups, with stretches, jumps, short movements and constant changes of rhythm, bringing them all together consecutively. Thus, each exercise is a consequence of the previous one, achieving fluid movements similar to those of animals.

As well as being inspired by movements from the animal word, this discipline also combines movements from disciplines such as yoga or martial arts. In this way, the movements can be compared to the “asana” in yoga, and the famous “sun salutation”, “downward facing dog” or “cobra”, which may be more familiar if we’ve ever practiced yoga.

The Six Components

All of the movements in Animal Flow are gathered into categories called “The Six Components”, and are grouped into this order:

  • Wrist Movements
  • Activations
  • Specific stretches
  • Animal Locomotion Movements
  • Transitions
  • Flow

What can we achieve with Animal Flow?

Animal Flow is beneficial for the entire body. It tones muscles, increases heart rate, improves cardiovascular capacity, increases strength and power and works on the stability and elasticity of the body. Also, it includes stretches and movements that contribute towards body flexibility.

On the other hand, Animal Flow demands a lot of coordination and concentration, which can help to reduce anxiety or stress.
