7 foods to prevent colds

Colds appear when our defences aren’t capable of beating the viruses that the body faces.

Suitable nutrition (rich in natural vegetables) is essential for maintaining our immune system in good condition and defending us from microorganisms.

The best vegetables for preventing colds

  1. Yoghurt. Food with probiotics. They provide bacteria that are beneficial to the intestines, where the largest lymph nodes (immunity organs) in the body are found.
  2. Pear. Thanks to the vitamins A, C and B and their high water content, pears help to keep our mucosa hydrated and provide vitality. Try to eat one a day.
  3. Onion. These are important because of their antibiotic properties. They’re not a substitute, but if you add them to your daily menus, you have a lower likelihood of needing these medicines.
  4. Cauliflower. Rich in minerals and water, this is one of the most effective vegetables for preventing colds. Also, it is very sweet and versatile in the kitchen. Try to consume it twice a week.
  5. Mushrooms. These stimulate the white blood cells responsible for neutralising the invasion of bacteria or virus. A key ingredient for your dishes in autumn.
  6. Ginger. Its antibacterial power is efficient for taking care of intestinal flora and fighting infectious bacteria. In herbal tea with lemon it helps to eliminate mucous and relieve fever.
  7. Garlic. Thanks to its sulphur content, it helps the body to fight against infection processes in the respiratory and digestive systems. It is also a remedy to calm a cough.

Prevention starts in the shopping trolley. Fill it with the right foods and your body will be ready for the cold.
