Why it’s good to set goals (even if you don’t meet them completely)

Objectives guide you, improve productivity and strengthen our commitment.

The start of a new year can inspire you to make changes in your life, whether they’re on a personal or professional level.

Setting goals improves your emotional health, as well as your productivity and satisfaction, even when you don’t achieve everything you set out to do.

Why should you set objectives?

  1. Commitment. Setting goals encourages the attention and commitment necessary to achieve them. Without such goals, you would be more easily distracted and lose motivation.
  2. Evaluation. Goals allow you to evaluate your life. Look at where you are now and where you want to be. Identify strengths, weaknesses and obstacles, and make a plan to overcome them.
  3. Focus. By setting priorities, you’ll focus your attention on what is in line with your goal. This helps you to make decisions more easily and to organise and simplify your life.
  4. Action. Just by writing down your resolutions, you’re already on your way. The only way to bring about change is by setting goals and acting to achieve them.
  5. Inspiration. Hope for tomorrow’s success drives you to take action today. Steady progress towards the goal will generate momentum and fuel your motivation.
  6. Expansion. In order to achieve a goal, it’s necessary to leave your comfort zone and enter into the expansion or learning zone, where you will face your personal limits.
  7. Learning. You will probably not be able to meet all the objectives you set for yourself. But, failing can help you learn and move forward with a better approach, mindset and strategy.
