Boost your energy and start the year out strong

Eating a balanced diet, doing some exercise and getting enough sleep boost your energy.

Some people are constantly on the move. They go from one activity to the next and never seem to run out of steam. Who wouldn’t want to feel this way, facing every day with energy, joy and a sense of happiness?

Luckily, there are lots of ways to get the endorphins flowing and boost both your energy level and mood.

Six tips for boosting your energy
If you want to put physical and mental exhausting in the past and feel energised and invigorated instead, put these tips into practice:

Set a daily routine. Try not to eat a late dinner and go to bed late; both of these habits drain your energy and make you tired. Eat dinner at least a couple of hours before you go to bed and eat at the same time every day. Getting enough sleep also keeps you from feeling sleepy during the day.

Eat a balanced diet. Vitamin C, found in kiwis, red peppers and other vegetables, naturally combats fatigue. Carbohydrates, on the other hand, are a quick source of energy, but if you overdo it they can have the opposite effect. Replace them with fibre-rich whole foods.

Protein is also vital if you want to keep your metabolism going strong and ward off fatigue. Incorporate fish, meat and eggs into your diet. Plus, having the right levels of vitamin D will keep you from feeling tired more so often.

Stay hydrated. Drinking two litres of water a day and drinking herbal teas helps combat fatigue and enhances your concentration.

Drink less caffeine. People often drink too much coffee and while energy-boosting drinks can help keep you running, they end up being simply quick fix that doesn’t solve the problem. Drink less caffeine and replace it with freshly squeezed juice or a green smoothie.

Avoid a sedentary lifestyle. Even though the reason many people don’t exercise is because they don’t have time, you should carve out at least three days a week for some physical activity. This will boost your serotonin level and make you feel better and more motivated.

Do something that you enjoy every day. No matter how small, it will boost your energy and stamina. Spend half an hour reading a book, having a coffee with a friend or practising English.
